Our brand new Wayfarer Trainer will be officially launched/named on Saturday 6th September at the club at 1500 with the Rt Hon Vince Cable, MP for Twickenham, present to assist. The Cadet division is holding a competition to select a name, to be announced at the launching.
We hope that as many members as possible will come to show their support. As you know the boat , funded 100% by Sport England, will be used for introducing new people to sailing and to the club and we look forward in due time to running RYA sailing courses. Meanwhile the boat will be available for basic teaching and also handicap racing by both newcomers and members, to include adults and youngsters. If you would like to help by offering to give informal tuition in the boat, please let me know by sending me an email as soon as possible to firstname.lastname@example.org. During the winter months the most suitable times are likely to be Saturday afternoons for practice sailing, Sunday mornings for club racing, and possibly Sunday afternoons for practice sailing. If you have a particular link to a school or university in the area whose pupils or students might like to sail with us, please also contact me as soon as possible.
On the launch day, boat owners who can, are asked to be prepared to take non-member visitors out for a short trial sail during the afternoon. Christian Harper has kindly agreed to be there with his Wayfarer but we may be glad of other boats being available.
Please feel free to take a copy of the Wayfarer Launch Poster to your local shop, pub, university or school.
